Eco Friendly Rugs Made From Recycled Materials

I transform meaningful clothing into heirloom-quality handwoven rugs.

Website under construction. Please have patience

Hi there!

My love for rag rugs began in my childhood home, where my grandfather wove rugs from worn clothing and everyday fabrics for our family to use. I spent many hours watching him work at his loom as he turned old garments into something both useful and beautiful.

As a young child, I also helped my mother prepare fabric strips so my grandfather could weave them into rugs for our home. Those simple moments stayed with me long after I grew up.

Years later, I returned to the craft myself. What began as a way to reconnect with a meaningful tradition has grown into a way to help others preserve their own memories.

Today I continue the tradition of weaving rag rugs using clothing and textiles that hold special meaning. Family garments, wedding attire, and fabrics that are too meaningful to discard can be transformed into rugs that will be used and loved every day.

Each rug is woven by hand on my loom, continuing a craft that has been part of my life since childhood.

From the Loom

Each Raggity Rug is handwoven from reclaimed textiles and designed for everyday life.
Because each rug is handwoven from reclaimed textiles, every piece is completely unique.

New rugs are added regularly as they come off the loom.

If you're looking for a particular color palette, size, or texture, custom orders are always welcome.

Each rug is reversible, machine washable, and woven to last a lifetime.

Some fabrics hold more than thread.

They hold stories

I create custom memory rugs using clothing you provide. Whether it’s garments from a loved one who has passed, a child’s collection of

well-worn athletic shirts, or pieces that mark a season of life you want to preserve.

Each rug is thoughtfully handwoven on my loom, carefully transforming your cherished textiles into something lasting and beautiful.

A piece you can see, touch, and walk across every day.

Because memories deserve more than a box in the closet.

Have Clothing you’d like woven into a rug?

I’d love to hear your story.

Most memory rugs begin with a box of clothing from a loved one or meaningful moment in life. I carefully sort, prepare, and weave those fabrics into a rug that preserves the story behind them.

Eco Friendly Rugs

At Raggity Rug Design, nothing goes to waste, especially textiles that have been loved and worn over time. Each rug is handwoven using 100% upcycled materials, giving new life to fabrics that might otherwise end up in a landfill.

Durable, reversible, and machine washable, these rugs are made for real life. Whether in a camper, kitchen, hallway, or cozy corner on the porch, they bring warmth, color, and purpose to the spaces you love.

Nothin’ but rags

Raggity Rugs really are nothin’ but rags.

Each rug begins with textiles that have been worn, loved, and nearly worn out. It is clothing, towels, curtains, bedding, and fabric scraps gathered from thrift stores, friends, and Terry’s own home.

Instead of being tossed into the trash and sent to a landfill, these materials are carefully prepared for the loom and woven into something new — beautiful, practical rugs made to be used and enjoyed for years to come.

Reduce Reuse Recycle

The United States produces 25 billion pounds of textile waste each year. More than 85% of it, or about 70 pounds per person, ends up in landfills annually.

Raggity Rug Design is part of the solution.

Each handwoven rag rug repurposes 5+ pounds of textiles. With over 1,500 rugs created, Raggity Rug Design has already upcycled more than 10,000 pounds of fabric, and the number continues to grow.

Many of the rugs I weave begin with clothing that carries stories. Family garments, wedding attire, and fabrics that hold memories too meaningful to throw away.

Perhaps even clothing from your own family.

Instead of sitting forgotten in a closet or stored away in a box, those fabrics can be woven into a rug that will be used and loved every day.

Clothing that once held memories can become a rug that holds them for generations.

Not sure if your clothing will work for a rug? You are always welcome to reach out and ask.

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. If you have a particular color pattern in mind, please contact Terry. Example photos are especially helpful since colors and patterns vary.

  • Unfortunately, we cannot make our rugs without fringe. Fringe is necessary for the edge finishing and also part of the Raggity Rug signature style.

  • Raggity Rugs can only be made 25” wide. But the length can be customized.

  • Raggity Rugs can be washed in cold water on a normal cycle with or without mild detergent. We recommend line drying your rug. Or if necessary, partially drying the rug on a cool setting before line drying.
